Imaginext Series 12 Clawtron: A Tribute to 1980s Adventure People

I've been casually collecting the Fisher-Price Imaginext line since the first series of blind bag figures came out a few years ago.  As with most toys these days, distribution has been unpredictable and it's difficult to find some of these in the stores.  However, I've managed to find the majority of the figures that I like.  For the most part, I've been buying the monster related figures and the majority of the space or robot guys.  So far, I've picked up at least one figure from almost every series.

When series 11 came out, I picked up every figure in the series.  There were several figures that were made as tributes to old toys from the 1980s.  There's a tribute to the M.U.S.C.L.E. figures (which I've written about HERE), a tribute to the Snake Man figure inspired by the Triple Threat Snake from Hasbro's Battle Beasts (which I've written about HERE), and a tribute to the X-Ray Man figure from the Fisher-Price Adventure People line (which I've written about HERE).  Series 12 wasn't as exciting for me and I only ended up buying one figure from wave.  The figure was a green-skinned space man in a black astronaut suit and it seems to be another awesome figure inspired by the Fisher-Price Adventure People!

I've been seeing this figure referred to as "Clawtron" which is a reference to the Fisher-Price Adventure People "Clawtron" figure from the early 80s.  Although his mostly-black color scheme and claw-like hands do make this Imaginext figure resemble Clawtron to a certain degree, his head, helmet, and torso make him seem like more of a nod to the Adventure People pilot who came with the Firestar 1 space ship (which I believe came out a couple of years before Clawtron).  Either way, this Imaginext figure was definitely a must-have figure for my collection!  I never had either Clawtron or the Firestar 1 pilot as a kid, but I've picked up both of them as an adult and they are two of my favorite Adventure People figures!

Although the Fisher-Price Adventure People were some of the earliest 3.75" action figures on the market with their initial release in the early 1970s, Kenner's Star Wars figures dominated the toy departments upon their release a few years later.   Fisher-Price seemed to try to capture some of that market by giving their Adventure People line more of a space theme.  The Firestar 1 and its pilot, Clawtron, and X-Ray Man were some of the standout Adventure People figures from that time.

Much like the Adventure People that seem to have inspired his creation, the Imaginext "Clawtron" figure is made entirely of re-used and repainted parts from other figures from the Imaginext line.  The helmet, torso, and legs were all used on a yellow astronaut from series 10, the head is from the X-Ray Man figure from series 11, and the arms were originally used on a robot that came out in the 1st series.  As with most Imaginext blind bag figures, Clawtron comes with an accessory.  In this case, it's 2-piece accessory that looks like it's supposed to be a clear green satellite with a long antenna (or possibly a gun?).  I'm not sure if it's supposed to reference an Adventure People part or if it's a re-used piece from another Imaginext set, but either way it's kind of cool although somewhat difficult to display just because it's so big in comparison to the figure.
