Action Figure Overview: Masters of the Universe Classics - Count Marzo (Mattel, 2010)

Masters of the Universe Classics: Count Marzo Count Marzo is a powerful wizard from the original 1980s Masters of the Universe cartoon who appeared again (with a much cooler look and story line) in the 2002 cartoon. Although the character was in several episodes of both the 80s cartoon and again (as a more prominent villain) in the 2002 reboot, a figure wasn't made for the character in either the vintage line or the 200x line.  However, Mattel's Masters of the Universe Classics line was so successful that they released figures for many characters from the mini comics and the cartoons who had never been made into figures before.  Count Marzo was one of them. Masters of the Universe Classics: Count Marzo This figure was (thankfully) modeled very accurately from the 2002 cartoon version rather than the original series version.  They did an excellent job of making the figure look like his cartoon counterpart. From his two-toned black and gray hair that was alw...

Action Figure Overview: Masters of the Universe Classics - Blue Mer-Man (Mattel, 2010)

Masters of the Universe Classics Blue Mer-Man In the early years of the Masters of the Universe Classics line by Mattel, many of figures weren't available in stores and could only be purchased online through Mattycollector.com.  This made it much less likely that the figures would sell to casual fans or kids simply because they weren't aware of the series' existence.  However, around 2010, a series of 2-packs featuring one DC Universe character paired with a similar Masters of the Universe character started to hit the shelves in Toys R Us stores.  The first two were He-Man / Superman and Skeletor / Lex Luthor for around $30 per 2-pack. The original Masters of the Universe Classics Mer-Man and the later "Blue" or "Mini-Comic" 2-pack Mer-Man In late 2010 / early 2011, the second wave became available.  This wave included Stratos / Hawkman and Mer-Man / Aquaman.  I think some people were able to get these new 2-packs online from Toys R Us direct...

Masters of the Universe Minis, Mattel, 2014 Ever since the Masters of the Universe toys from Mattel appeared on the shelves in 1982, He-Man and company have been some of the most popular toys ever!  Although almost a decade passed in the 1990s with no new Masters of the Universe product, Mattel came back with commemorative figures in 2000.  That's when the company realized the potential for more Masters of the Universe products and the "Modern" or "200x" line of toys and cartoon arrived.  Although that line only lasted a few years, it was enough to get the ball rolling and the Masters of the Universe Classics line was born!  The Classics line was so successful that a variety of other Masters of the Universe lines followed. One of my favorite lines was the Masters of the Universe Minis from 2014.  There were 6 figures and a mini Castle Grayskull playset released over the course of 2014.  One 2-Pack came out every other month for the entire year and...
