Universal Monsters Wolf Man Action Figures: Remco vs. Burger King vs. ReAction

Image
Universal Monsters Wolf Man: Remco (left), Burger King (center), ReAction (right) The Universal Monsters have been around much longer than I have.  Even as a kid, I couldn't help but notice that there were still remnants of their 1960s  resurgence in popularity.  However, it wasn't until Remco released their line of 3 3/4" Universal Monsters that they seemed to fit in with my world of toys.  I had always wanted to pick up these figures, but ended up with the 8" Remco Dracula and Frankenstein instead of any of the 3 3/4" figures.  It wasn't until I was an adult that I finally added some of these awesome figures to my collection! Universal Monsters 1980 Remco Wolf Man Because I had been keeping an eye out for them for quite a while before picking up the Remco figures, I saw a lot of 1997 Burger King monsters mislabeled (and overpriced) by people who didn't know the difference.  I can understand.  I wouldn't be able to differentiate between t

Monster Wind-Up Toys for Halloween!

Dracula, Frankenstein, Mummy, and Skeleton wind-up toys! One of the cool things about collecting monster toys is you never know what weird, wild, wacky stuff you'll stumble across to add to your collection.  Most of the monsters that I collect are based on the main Universal Monsters characters...even though it's often not officially licensed items.  Not too long ago, while browsing around ebay, I stumbled across several different Monster Wind-Up toys.  There were several that were obviously based on the Universal Monsters (Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy), though I'd be surprised if any of them are actually licensed products.  Either way, at under $1 each, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to add these quirky little guys to my collection! A groovy pack of wind-up Skeletons! Monster Wind-Up Toys creep out of the cemetery! Do you collect monster toys?  If so, I'd love to hear about the strangest piece in your collection!  Tell me about it in th

Action Figure Overview: Mad Monsters - The Horrible Mummy (Mego, 1973)

Mego's Mad Monster Series: The Horrible Mummy (1973) The Mego toy company dominated the shelf space in many toy stores throughout most of the 1970s!  Some of their more famous action figure lines included their popular 8" World's Greatest Super Heroes, Star Trek, Wizard of Oz, and Planet of the Apes (read more about that  HERE ).  However, many people don't realize just how many lines of action figures Mego produced!  In the early years, Mego manufactured quite a few more generic lines that didn't require licensing.  They made cowboys, cavemen, knights, and action heroes, but one of the coolest lines was The Mad Monsters Series! The Horrible Mummy Creeps Up Behind An Unsuspecting Action Jackson! There were four awesome monsters in The Mad Monster Series: The Dreadful Dracula, The Monster Frankenstein, The Human Wolfman, and The Horrible Mummy.  As with many of their 8" figures, the Mad Monsters were cheesy and amazing at the same time!  They were

Fisher-Price Adventure People meet The Remco Universal Monsters

The Creature from the Black Lagoon is about to surprise this unsuspecting Deep Sea Diver! Around 1980, Remco released a line of six Universal Monsters 3 3/4" Action Figures.  The line included Count Dracula, The Wolfman, The Mummy, The Frankenstein Monster, The Phantom of the Opera, and The Creature from the Black Lagoon.  All six were released in "Glow-In-The-Dark" and non-glow versions.  The monsters were awesome, but wouldn't they be even better with someone for them to scare?  Fortunately, the similarly scaled Fisher-Price adventure people were on the shelves from 1975 to 1985 giving us plenty of victims for our cool monster figures!  Since we're in the month of October, I thought I'd share some photos of the Fisher-Price Adventure People with the Remco Universal Monsters! Look out, Brad!  There's something behind you!  It looks like some sort of Wolfman! Frankenstein's Monster has left the castle and follows an unsuspecting, pret
