Imaginext Series 11 X-Ray Man and Dog: A Tribute to 1980s Adventure People

Original 1982 Adventure People X-Ray Man with modern Imaginext A-Ray Man and Dog.

A few years ago, Fisher-Price began releasing blind bag figures from their popular Imaginext line.  I started collecting them Imaginext when Series 1 first came out.  Although they're distribution has been kind of random, I've managed to pick up most of the ones I've wanted.  Fisher-Price has created a lot of cool figures for this line, but there has been such a variety of themes that I'm not really interested in collecting them all.  For the most part, I'm not interested in the sports guys or some of the more mundane characters.  I pick up anything monster related and most of the space or robot guys.  With that said, I've picked up at least one figure from almost every series.

When series 11 came out, I picked up every figure.  There were several figures that were made as tributes to old toys from the 1980s.  There's a tribute to the M.U.S.C.L.E. figures (which I've written about HERE) and a tribute to the Snake Man figure inspired by the Triple Threat Snake from Hasbro's Battle Beasts (which I've written about HERE).  This post is about the Imaginext figure inspired by the 1982 X-Ray Man figure from the Fisher-Price Adventure People line!

Several space themed Adventure People including X-Ray Woman and X-Ray Man

The Fisher-Price Adventure People were some of the earliest 3.75" action figures on the market back in the 1970s.  Kenner even used several Adventure People as the base for their prototypes for the Star Wars action figure line.  However, after the success of the Kenner Star Wars figures, Fisher-Price started chasing Kenner's success by creating many space characters for the Adventure People line.  One of the most popular was a clear green character with blue / gray hair and yellow eyes that came out in 1982 called "X-Ray Man.

I never had this figure as a kid, but I had seen him around somewhere and definitely wanted him back then.  So when I saw that Fisher-Price had released a tribute to this character in their Imaginext line, I definitely wanted to pick one up!

Imaginext's tribute to the 1982 X-Ray Man

X-Ray Dog
The Imaginext X-Ray Man is made of clear blue / green plastic which is slightly more blue than the vintage X-Ray Man figure.  Like the original, he has blue / gray hair, yellow eyes, bare feet, and a robot control panel print on his chest.  The panel has some slight differences from the original, but looks very close to the original art.  Most Imaginext figures come with an accessory and this one is no exception.  Along with the figure, you also get a robot dog molded in the same clear blue / green plastic also with the same yellow eyes.  There was no similar dog in the original Adventure People line, so I'm not sure why this accessory was chosen.  I believe the dog was made from an existing mold, so it may have just been a random decision so that there would be something to include with this figure without having to create a new mold for an accessory.  Either way, the dog is a nice companion piece to the figure!

Although the Imaginext figures are sold in blind bags, there are codes on the back so that you can determine which figure is in each bag.  I have a list of all of the series 11 codes HERE if you'd like to pick up any of these figures and want to know what you're getting!

Do you collect either Fisher-Price Adventure People or Imaginext figures?  Which characters are your favorites?  What do you think of the Imaginext figures that pay tribute to toys from the 1980s?  What tributes would you like to see Imaginext create?  Tell me in the comments!
