Action Figure Overview: Masters of the Universe MegaConstrux - Man-At-Arms (Mega Construx, 2018)
Heroic Man-At-Arms (Mega Construx, 2018) |
Man-At-Arms was one of the very first figures to be released in the Masters of the Universe line back in 1982. Throughout the MOTU franchise, Man-At-Arms has been a prominent character. He appeared in about half of the original mini comics that came packaged with the action figures and has appeared in many of the books, comics, and cartoons that have come out of the series. He's even one of the few characters from the original toy line to appear in the live action Masters of the Universe movie.

Teela and Man-At-Arms |
As the Masters of the Universe story began to develop through the books, mini comics, and Filmation cartoon, it became part of the story that Man-At-Arms was Teela's foster father. In most versions, Teela is actually the daughter of the Sorceress who asked Man-At-Arms to raise her becuase she wouldn't be able to while protecting Castle Grayskull.

When the first Masters of the Universe Mega Construx figures were released, they were sold individually carded in a case labled as "Heroes" with figures from other lines. He-Man and Skeletor were the only two MOTU figures in series 1. Beast Man and Teela were included in series 2. Series 3 only featured one Masters of the Universe character and it was Faker. Man-At-Arms didn't arrive until series 4 along with Evil-Lyn. I guess by then Mega Construx realized that people wanted Masters of the Universe figures because they released a 5-pack of the first 5 figures and the Wind Raider around that time. Scare Glow and Stratos would be inculded in series 5 and after that, they started released waves made up entirely of single carded Masters of the Universe characters.

The Masters of the Universe Mega Construx figures typically retail for around $5. However, at one point, Man-At-Arms had been sitting on the shelves for a while and ended up on clearance at Walmart for $2.50! They could also be found at the store 5 Below for $3.25. Considering the price of action figures these days, I think $5 for a Mega Construx figure isn't bad. At $2.50 I definitely think they're a great deal!

For those of you who haven't picked up any of these figures, The Mega Construx figures are about 2 inches tall and highly articulated. They have heads on ball joints that move around very well. They are jointed at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, and knees. Many of them have removable chest armor and I believe that all of them (at least in the Masters of the Universe line) come with weapons or other accessories. It's a surprising amount of detail and articulation for such small figures!

What's even more surprising to me is that they honestly seem to try to make the figures cool instead of just churning them out like some toy lines. Man-At-Arms has removable chest armor and a removable helmet, so you can put them on another figure if you want to. The shoulder armor is also removable, but that arm is slightly different, so it doesn't fit on every arm quite as well. Also, instead of just giving Man-At-Arms some random, generic weapon that's "close enough" to his mace, Mega Construx actually did a nice job of making a mace that looks a lot like the one that came with the original, vintage figure. That alone is really cool, but they didn't stop there. He also comes with a laser pistol and to make things even cooler, both the mace and the laser pistol have little slits in the side so that they can be attached to the back of his armor!
