Mego returns with new 8" Bela Lugosi Dracula

2018 Mego Bela Lugosi Dracula
The Mego toy company manufactured many iconic toys in the 1970s and early 1980s including their  popular 8" action figure lines of Super Heroes, Star Trek, and Planet of the Apes (read more about that HERE).  Unfortunately, the company went out of business not too far into the 80s.  In 2018, Mego returned with a new batch of 8" figures which were available only at Target stores.  Most of the figures in the first wave were one character from several TV shows from the 60s to the 90s such as Alice from The Brady Bunch, Peg from Married with Children, Tootie from The Facts of Life, Kelly from Charlie's Angels, Norm from Cheers, and Fonzie from Happy Days.  However, the first wave of figures also included this very popular Bela Lugosi Dracula!

This figure is amazing and easily my favorite of the first wave of 2018 Mego figures.  In my opinion, the head sculpt rivals anything the company has ever done.  The outfit is nice as well.  I'll admit that I wasn't crazy about the packaging when the figures first hit the shelves, but it's grown on me somewhat.  Mego has released a new figure in 2019 which is basically the same, but with a red lining in the cape instead of the gray lining of the original release.  The package art for the new figure is a little bit better than the 2018 release, but still nowhere near as cool as the artwork on Mego's Mad Monster toys of the 1970s.  Still, it's a very small concern considering how cool it is to me that I was able to buy an actual Mego brand Bela Lugosi Dracula figure with one of my favorite head sculpts ever for around $15 at Target!

As a side note, it's interesting to me that the photo Mego used on the package for this Dracula figure is actually of Bela Lugosi from the movie "Mark of the Vampire." I would assume that decision had something to do with licensing rather than being a mistake, but either way, the photo works well for the package.

What do you think of the new MEGO 8" action figures?  Which one is your favorite?  What monsters would you like to see MEGO release?  Tell us in the comments!
