Action Figure Overview: Masters of the Universe Classics - Power-Con Prince Adam (Super7, 2017)

Power-Con Prince Adam (Super7, 2017)

The Masters of the Universe Classics line started in 2008 and it's one of my favorite modern action figure lines.  Although there were a few quality issues throughout the line, the figures were overall well made and certainly had much better articulation than the vintage figures.  Just as importantly, the figures look so ridiculously cool!  A friend of mine told me that the Masters of the Universe Classics figures look in reality just like what the vintage figures looked through the filter of his imagination.  We weren't alone in thinking they were cool figures.  The line was very successful!

Maybe THIS Prince Adam is good with a sword?

In fact, the Classics line was so successful that it included new versions of all of the vintage Masters of the Universe figures as well as the Princess of Power line, many variant figures, and characters from the cartoon and mini-comics that were never released before.  One example that covers both variation figures and characters from the mini-comics would be the 2017 Power-Con 3-pack that included mini-comic versions of Stratos, Trap-Jaw, and Prince Adam.

Although the more familiar version of Prince Adam originally seen in the Filmation cartoon was released with the Orko figure in 2010, the 2017 Power-Con version of Prince Adam had many differences.  The 2010 Prince Adam came with two different heads, neither of which were used on the 2017 Power-Con Prince Adam.  Aside from the head, the other differences are just in the paint scheme.  The 2010 Prince Adam had the familiar long-sleeve, white shirt under his purple vest which was held closed by a black belt with a yellow buckle.  The Power-Con Prince Adam is wearing a blue vest with short, gold sleeves over a bare chest.  This vest is also held closed by a black belt, but this one has a gold buckle.  Both versions have bracelets on the wrists, but the 2010 He-Man has silver bracelets while the Power-Con version has gold bracelets.  The 2010 Prince Adam has purple shorts with matching purple boots with white cuffs over lavender leggings.  The Power-Con He-Man has brown furry shorts with matching brown boots over bare legs.  While the 2010 Prince Adam came with two purple swords, the Power-Con version had only one sword and it was silver.

Many people think that the character Prince Adam didn't show up at all until the Filmation cartoon which came out near the end of 1983.  However, Prince Adam's debut was actually in the Superman / He-Man crossover comic in July of 1982.  The version in that comic book looks a lot more like the Power-Con version of the character.  It is also assumed by many fans that the blue vest version of He-Man only appeared in some early full-size comics which might not be seen as particularly canon, but the blue outfit Prince Adam can also be found in the wave 3 mini-comic "He-Man and the Insect People" (which was packaged with the wave 3 figures: Battle Armor He-Man, Mekaneck, and Buzz-Off).

Initially, I didn't feel like I "needed" a Prince Adam figure in my MOTU Classics collection at all, but I have to admit, I feel like having the 2010 version does make my collection feel more complete to me.  There are certainly figures that I would prefer to have in my collection, but that I can't afford.  For example, the original Beast Man (or even the Red Beast Man) and Scare Glow are at the top of my list, but I'd also like to add Trap-Jaw, Tri-Klops, Battle Cat, Panthor, The Sorceress, and several others to my collection.  However, I don't feel like the Power-Con Prince Adam is really a necessity.  It's very nice that the figure came out, but just didn't seem to fit into my collection.  In fact, the reason I'm posting about this figure now is because I just sold mine and thought if I were ever going to do a blog on this version, it would be now or never!
